The expression goes, "Face your fears, head-on." For Paulo Miguel, those words hold real meaning. He spent most of his youth on the ice, as a goalie, in hockey-crazy Montreal, Canada. Turns out it was time well spent. Having cold hockey pucks aimed directly at him while "between the pipes" on countless sub-zero days honed Paulo's patience and instincts and provided him with the quickest of reflexes. So quick, in fact, that when he was 16, he had an opportunity to practice with his home team, the Canadiens, on the fabled ice of the old Montreal Forum. It was just one practice, but the experience was one he'll never forget. "What a thrill," Paulo remembers. "And I made my share of saves, too." As a project leader at ACME, these same skills allow Paulo to make saves of a different kind in the corporate world. He has more than 13 years experience in the software and professional services industries, specializing in program and project management, as well as implementation and sales engineering. A whiz at resolving technical issues, Paulo has devised winning strategies for companies like Nextel Communications, British Petroleum, Continental Airlines, and Gap, Inc. Paulo earned his bachelor of commerce in finance and management information services from McGill University in Montreal. He's a polyglot–fluent in English, French and Portuguese. Years ago, he traded his home in the Great White North for one in northern Marin County, where he lives with his wife, Dina, and two children. Paulo's an avid mountain biker and a big fan of international soccer, the Tour de France and Formula One car racing. But his favorite sport, the one that helped define who he is today, is hockey. |
