Joseph DellaTorre started playing piano when he was just six years old. He took lessons throughout his youth and eventually became a pretty good player. But one day in high school, something happened to Joe that forever changed the way he thought about music. Well, the way he thought – period. His teacher asked him to play the color red. Suddenly the boundaries between sight and sound, between music and the visual arts – between any two things that he'd previously held apart – were removed. His teacher had challenged him to think in a way he'd never thought before. Like how to apply things that he knew to things he did not. Like how to think about something for which he had no context or starting point. Like how to go beyond the limits and rules we all create in our minds. For Joe, the lesson was an introduction to creative problem solving that he admits has served him well time and time again. Joe's not exaggerating. Consistently throughout his 20-year career, he's shown a flair for thinking differently. Over and over, he's found solutions to complex problems most folks would have abandoned at the start. First at KPMG/BearingPoint. Then at Trianz and SkyObs, Inc. And now today as senior project leader at ACME. As a consultant working with companies in many diverse industries, including manufacturing, retail and the public sector, Joe's orchestrated everything from the creation of an offshore sales support organization to the build out of a startup consulting firm. Joe earned his MBA from Vanderbilt University and his bachelor of arts in political science from Stony Brook University. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife, Kimberly, and two-year-old son and "best friend," Alexander. Music is still a big part of his life. He plays, composes, conducts, teaches and listens – for both personal enjoyment and creative inspiration. His most recent gig? He performed as part of an African percussion ensemble in Sausalito's Fourth of July parade, trading his piano for the djembe, a goatskin-covered hand drum. |
